Tingley Beach

June 6, 2008 by Amanda Tapia

Tingley Beach is located on Tingley Dr. just south of Central Ave. In 1930, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy began diverting water from the Rio Grande and called this place Conservancy Beach. Later, it was renamed after Clyde Tingley (Albuquerque Politician, health care advocate and the 11th governor of New Mexico). In 1950 the ponds were closed to swimmers and used mainly for fishing. Tingley Beach was renovated in 2004.

Present day Tingley Beach is a great attraction and cheap way to entertain yourself. Of course there are ways to spend money if you want to eat food at Tingley Cafe, ride a bike or rent a pedal boat. Admittance is free and the ponds open at sunrise and close at sunset. Any day of the year, even during blizzards, you will find fisherman enjoying a day out. During the summer and on weekends, Tingley Beach is filled with families enjoying a day outside together. Model boat enthusiasts have access to the Model Boat pond which is also free.

I live by Tingle and I am so glad for it. Their are so many people walking, running, kids fishing and biking in my area now.

The city needs to finish it, there is a big dirt area completely unfinished.
